Being a Search and Rescue Canine Handler is a very rewarding job.
However, this job is a full time, non-paid position.  The average High
Desert Search dog handler will spend about 32 hours and travel 800
miles each month training their dog.  Out of pocket expense for
training, equipment, and certification can cost several thousands of
dollars for each handler-dog team.

Once certified, a dog team will continue their rigorous training
schedule to keep their skills sharp.  A certified team is 'on call' at all
hours day or night for a possible call out to find a missing person.  So
a certified team must be ready to respond at a moment's notice.

HDSD is an Oregon registered non-profit organization that accepts
public donation to help bring in specialized training and supply unit
members with necessary field equipment. By making a flat donation
to High Desert Search Dogs, you can help ensure that finances are
never an obstacle for the proper training, provisioning, and support
of our volunteer rescuers.  Our federal 501c3 status is currently
pending.
